American casualties five killed and twenty five wounded. rebels suffered heavy losses. Reinforcement by Col. Wheaton's second and third battalions joined later. battle ongoing about 20 miles from Manila.
Crevenann June 19 Special reports that strikers greased tracks at several points to stop operations without rioting. Also notes Otis cables that all volunteer organizations here wish to be mustered out at San Francisco. Washington June 19 Special confirms the same mustering preference at San Francisco.
Word reaches Sioux Falls of the drowning death of two children of Mrs. Edward Swarts of Freeport Illinois while visiting her father Tobia Clementson in Union County Dakota. Locals know little about the family but suspect they may reside near Freeport.
About 100 traveling men from Freeport and outside firms will settle here for the street fair. The boys show strong interest in the event and will meet next Saturday evening at the fair headquarters to discuss action. All traveling men are urged to attend.
Nearly 1,500 spectators watched Nebraska Indians defeat Freeport 6 to 1 at Taylor's park. Saline pitched effectively for the Indians, allowing five hits while Hefferman yielded eleven hits for Freeport. The teams have split their series 2–2, with later games set at Mt. Carroll and, next week, at this ground.

The Freeport post office lists letters advertised for the week ending June 17. Names include LA Harper, Mrs. J. H. Russell, Miss Eva Hinds, Miss B. E. Dr B H Bean a well known northern Illinois physician committed suicide by poison in Belvipere on June 18. He left letters to his wife and a Cherry Valley woman confessing love and stating it led to his death. Renowned once for an outrage case he served a Joliet prison term then returned home amid fanfare while owning a Savanna drug store and other ventures. Bean was famed as northern Illinois champion gun shot holder with a diamond badge from the Rockford Gun club.
A free cooking lecture will be held under the Ladies Aid Society of the First M E Church on Tuesday afternoon at 2 30. A free lunch will be served.
Sealed proposals will be received by the committee on poor and poor farm for all medical, surgical and obstetrical services for the current year starting July 1 1899 and ending July 1 1900 at the poor farm jail and other places. Proposals will be re removed at the south clerk's office Freeport until 12 o'clock June 22 1899. Committee reserves the right to reject any or all bids.
