President Roosevelt spoke at Michigan State Agricultural College during a six hour Lansing visit. He urged graduates and pupils to embrace constructive industry, praised farmers and farm wives, and warned against avoiding hard manual work. He planted a maple tree, was joined by notable officials, and the crowd cheered as he emphasized farming prosperity and rural life.
On his way to the city the president spoke from car platforms to crowds at way stations. In the capitol he met 500 schoolboys and Flint cadets, then addressed the legislature for about ten minutes, stressing railway policy and urging honest promises from public officials and citizens.
The resident's address to students urged training each citizen as an effective eco vonte unit. He stressed education is not just a personal matter but a communal duty guiding action.
President Roosevelt did not reach Fort Wayne as his car uncoupled from the southbound train at Auburn Junction. He spoke at several stops on the return trip, stressing that the best crops of Michigan were its men and women. In Springport he greeted Robert McClellan, a former ranch companion, and a boy named Herbert Leach was fed an orange and apple after distress aboard the car. The president spoke to about 10,000 at Hillsdale before continuing east.
Wisconsin University captured the varsity boat race on Lake Meut with Syracuse, while the Wisconsin freshmen also claimed victory. The Syracuse team won the four-oared event. Races were delayed until after sundown due to choppy seas.

Carl Punecan arrested for carrying concealed weapons, defended himself, fined 100 dollars or sixty days in jail. Mayor receives threats amid the case.

Remidji Minnesota June 1. The one year old Nickie Shepherd son of Joli Shepherd of Solwas, who disappeared from home a week ago, was found dead in swamp water eight miles north of Solway. Citizens had searched the area daily hoping to locate him. The body’s calm features suggested he died of exposure rather than a bear attack, though the cause remains under investigation.

Mount Carmel TL June 1 S R Puta attorney for Mount Carmel died under peculiar circumstances. A relative Isath erine Retsignil, blamed in Putnam's family, was found unconscious from a paralytic stroke and died soon after. During the funeral as the casket left the residence Putnam, newly arrived at the pavement, staggered and died moments later. The nervous strain caused heart failure.
John Chovson, a well known farmer ten miles from the city, was found in bed at midnight with his throat cut at his home. He may recover but is unable to talk. It is uncertain whether he was assaulted or attempted self harm, and the death-by-own-action theory is doubted.
