P B Cox & Co advertises a dry goods department with low prices on staples and fresh stock. It highlights Ladies' Shirt Waists at 25 cents, Rob Roy belts, India linen at 8 cents, and cheap night gowns and shirts, urging locals to inspect the entire stock to save money and noting all goods are warranted as advertised.
Ex Governor William H. Russell of Massachusetts dies suddenly at a camp in Quebec at age thirty nine. He was elected in 1890 and re elected twice, celebrated for his oratory and support of sound money. The cause appears heart disease.
Bryan arrived in St Louis from Salem and was greeted by crowds at multiple stations. He spoke briefly in East St. Louis, shared a light breakfast at Union Depot, and continued to Kansas City. Preparations for large receptions in Jefferson City and Sedalia were reported.
A Massillon report says the Buffalo Bill wagon driver misjudged the Fort Wayne viaduct height during a July 16 procession. The wagon toppled, musicians were thrown clear, and five or six were reported fatally injured as the crowd watched in horror.
A very severe storm swept Kentucky last night causing extensive crop and property damage. Beattyville reports houses struck by lightning and Mrs Sizemore and her four children seriously injured. Gov Altgeld's law partner J W Lanehart dies of peritonitis in Caronno. Senator Jones ordered to confer with Whitney in New York.
The Drover's Journal reports today include July wheat at 5.44, July pork 6.35, and Sept. lard 3.65. Cattle receipts at 11,000 steady to top at 4.55 a head, hogs 20,000 receipts with varying classes, and 14,000 sheep with natives at 2.00 to 3.75, plus lambs 3.00 to 6.30 located at the Union Stock Yards.
Advert says Walton, at 104-106 Stephenson, offers fall stock with near Call prices. Emphasizes large display and readiness to expand stock for the season.
A bright group of youngsters gathered at Mr. and Mrs. T. N. Johnson Jr to celebrate Lilian Johnsons sixth birthday. Miss Anna Snyder and several girls assisted in entertaining the guests and serving refreshments. Lilian received many pretty souvenirs while a long list of friends attended, including Dwight Smith Gertrude Ott Raymond Kennedy Ruth Doris Collins Donald Breed Laura Cowley and others at the cozy afternoon gathering.

The Henney Buggy Company Band performs an open air concert at Taylor's Park on Friday night. The program features Overture The Royal Message Walse by Laurendeau and songs by Suppé, with intermission followed by On Songs by Schubert and The Cakewalk. Admission is free for children under 12 with parents.
Freeport Cycling club hosts a two day bicycle tournament at Taylor Park with riders from Dixon to Freeport. Henney band provides music as officials supervise events and handicaps for novice open professionals amateurs and local races. Entries include Henry Bradis C J Kalbe M L Canada A D Kennedy F A McFarland and many more across one mile two mile and handicap events.
