In Washington Senator Penrose introduces a bill to require railroads within six months to guard frogs switches and guard rails and keep crossings and platforms safe to prevent feet from being caught. Penalties include fines from 500 to 2000 dollars per offense.
The Illinois Central westbound passenger train from Dubuque collided with a following freight at Dyersville last night at 10. Twelve people were injured but none died. Doctors Staples and Boothby of Dubuque treated the wounded. names were not learned. The train paused an hour. Some injured went back to Dubuque.

M G Flanagan arranged the services with pallbearers listed as Jere Riordan Sr Richard Sheridan P McGrath P Horan Barney Coyle and P Finn.

Seeley Read started here over twenty years ago building a large dry goods trade. Both are noted as progressive businessmen and the paper regrets Seeley s departure.
