Lindsay's Resolution on Philippine Islands in Senate

In Washington on February 14 Senator Lindsay of Kentucky offered a resolution urging the United States to accept from Spain the cession of the Philippine Islands with a plan to establish a stable self governed government. The measure was laid on the table. The Senate committee on foreign relations discussed declaratory resolutions related to the peace treaty and planned to vote. Teller spoke in support of ratifying the peace treaty as the House pursued river and harbor legislation. The War Department ordered 11,000 volunteers mustered out, listing regiments. Private Secretary Porter said the President is tired but in good health and not in danger of breaking down.

Avalanche Snow Slides Claim Seven on CP Route

News from Rodger's Pass at the Selkirks reports a snow slide swept away the round house and station. Seven lives were lost including Agent Caton and his family, Operator Carson, Engine Viper Redley, and an unknown person. Only two bodies recovered so far.
