At a regular cabinet session today the president announced he had determined to court martial General Eagan. Secretary Alger was absent, Adjutant General Corbin attended a prior White House conference with McKinley on the matter. The court martial order was expected to be issued today.
Sprineberg Illinois January 11 Speaker Sherman returned and is finishing the list of house committees. Committees will be announced tomorrow with major chairmanships already public and no material changes. Curtis leads the appropriations committee. Senate committees to be announced tomorrow.
Reports from Avnany New York Lincoln Nebraska Lansina Michigan and other states show legislatures in separate sessions voting on U S senators. Majorities awarded to fusion candidates Burrows and Davis while KansasAttorney General rules the special session illegal and voids laws.
The legislature held a separate session over Senator Turpie. Harrisnura Pae The senate ballot outcome shows Quay with 27 votes, denks 12, and others scattering.
In Prrissera 800 coal operators met and denied a miners request to delay a joint meeting. United Mine Workers elected officers with John Mitchell of Tudiana as president and W. C. Pearce of Indianapolis as secretary and treasurer. A rising vote praised Gov. Tanner for his actions during the Virden and Pana strikes.
Harrissura January 17 Special. Col. William A. Stone was today inaugurated governor of Pennsylvania and Gen. John P. S. Gobin was inducted as lieutenant governor. The inaugural procession was one of the most imposing ever seen at Harrisburg.
Jefferson City Missouri reports Francis Marion Cockrell was today re-elected by the legislature for his fifth term in the United States Senate with the houses voting separately Tomorrow the election will be ratified in joint session
Chicago forecast for the next twenty four hours calls for fair skies tonight then Wednesday with decidedly colder conditions. A cold wave is expected in the northeast region as brisk northerly winds persist.
John Barrett former United States minister to Siam spoke at the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce on the Philippines question. He argued permanent American control is vital for U S commerce and influence in the Far East, warning opposition would cede the Pacific to others. He said Aguinaldo could be pacified by diplomacy and firmness and that Monroe Doctrine would not be violated. Barrett noted support from nations like England and trusted President McKinley in the outcome.

E. Brubaker, Assistant Secretary A. Stuckenberg, Treasurer G. W. Whiteside, Missionary Treasurer Mrs. F. Towslee, Chorister Mrs. W. B. Thomas, Organist Miss M. Niles, School Board Secretary Walter Young, Librarian A. M. Hoover. An ad promotes Rocky Mountain Tea by Emmert & Burrell claiming it helps deaf husbands and blind wives.
