Patrick Kauffman died at Lena at about 6 this morning. Born June 5, 1827, in Virginia, he and brother Thomas were among Stephenson county’s first white settlers. He farmed near Lena, then ran grain and stock business, owning 280 acres. He married Phebe Clark in 1854 and had three children.
