The forecast calls for fair to tonight in Chicago with increasing clouds and warmer temperatures. In Iowa, expect partly cloudy skies tonight and Wednesday with warmer conditions in the east and colder in the west on Wednesday. sunrise at 7:27 p.m. and sunset at 4:33 p.m.
At Jacobs Creek Pennsylvania December 24 the search parties reached entry No 27 and uncovered seventy four bodies in a heap bringing the total recovered to 120 from the Darr mine disaster as relief efforts continued.
The Mt. Carroll Mirror reports that Andrew A. and Oswald Strauch were denied a new trial in a conspiracy case. Attorneys Renner and Grove argued extensive grounds asserting juror prejudice and improper instructions. Judge Heard denied the motion, noting the verdict was supported by the evidence and that no juror bias was proven.

Freeport mourns Mrs Louisa Burchard Converse long time Little Red School House teacher born 1823 in Marshall New York. Sister of Horatio C Burchard she taught many to prominence and lived in Freeport since 1860 with a daughter Gertrude. Funeral planned Thursday at 3 from Horatio Burchard home with burial in Oakland cemetery.
Freeport mourns a pioneer resident with the death of Barbara Furry aged ninety three. The long life ends from natural causes as the county notes one of its oldest inhabitants.
