Would Not Live as a Cripple in Illinois Tragedy
Henry Brown and Morris Myers sought shelter beneath flat cars near Marengo during a storm. An engine backed onto the switch, Myers escaped but Brown, aged 65 and a California forty-niner, was cut off by the wheels. Brown, while aid was summoned, drew a razor and opened an artery, dying quickly.
