Washington August 18 Senor Palma and Cuban representatives met officials on how to handle Cuban army pay and were told the soldiers should disband and go to work. Treasury officials see no need for another war bond issue and favor keeping the current revenue law with minor changes for an indefinite period.

Troops Health Improving at Ponce

The health of the troops is steadily improving due to strict sanitation. Sickness fell from ten to three percent. Friday reports show 440 in the hospital of a 15,000 command, most cases being climatic. The Harlow Business College faculty plans a reception at the college building in early fall to showcase the college and offer scholarships at low rates.

Storm-Damage Hits Dixon Illinois Churches Barns Stock

A violent storm at Woosung and surrounding areas in Ogle county damages and destroys multiple structures. The Union church near Woosung is struck by lightning and burned. Barns farmsteads at Stratford Polo and Pine Creek suffer fire and damage. Livestock dies and crops destroyed as rain falls heavily and Rock River rises.

Would Not Live as a Cripple in Illinois Tragedy

Henry Brown and Morris Myers sought shelter beneath flat cars near Marengo during a storm. An engine backed onto the switch, Myers escaped but Brown, aged 65 and a California forty-niner, was cut off by the wheels. Brown, while aid was summoned, drew a razor and opened an artery, dying quickly.
