Freeland Borough Council Aids Fire Serv and Debates Land
The Freeland borough council met last evening with members including Doggett Hincer Gallagher McLaughlin McNelis Crawford and Moersbacher. Bills were ordered paid for fire plugs rent machinery street lights and other services. The Burgess report showed receipts and balances and the treasurer reported a total of 1831.27 with a sinking fund of 9640.56. The street committee discussed the Third ward land question and a flood control idea involving gutters versus a manhole with no action taken. Trees in Public park were cut and a $10 reward offer was authorized. An 18 inch sewer across Rudewick land was discussed along with permission from Upper Lehigh Coal for an outlet. Two new electric light proposals were read offering arc lamps or enclosed lamps with different terms. John Sutton was named to the Second ward vacancy. Councilman Ward attacked Hazleton Plain Speaker reporter George McGee and was forcefully removed by Chief O Donnell after an altercation drawing unfavorable comment.
