State Normal School presents its location near the Delaware Water Gap and outlines courses including music elocution art and a college preparatory department. Free tuition is available under state law with modest boarding costs and new facilities pending. catalogues and open September 5 are announced alongside local legal notices and business listings.
The Central Labor Union leads a Labor Day celebration in Freeland with a parade through Centre street, speeches at the public park, and a picnic for workers and families. Over 2,300 marchers, including miners, engineers, and brewery workers, join under ideal weather, with speakers addressing labor disputes and calls for arbitration and peace in the coal region.
Burgess John F. Boyle called a meeting of business people and citizens to form a local branch of the People’s Alliance. The Municipal hall was filled as Boyle was reelected chairman and Councilman Matthew Long of Hazleton spoke, outlining the alliance’s aim to aid in settling the strike.
A bay horse attached to a light runabout in South Centre street bolted toward Drifton. It collided with a buckboard driven by J. Zakutney of Luzerne, the shaft pierced the horse’s breast and it died instantly. Zakutney’s horse ran free then was captured without further damage.
A new non partisans group in Wilkes Barre pledges a 200 dollar reward for successful prosecutions of primary election law offenses. Charter members include H M Welles Jr and George R Bedford with officers and directors from both major parties.

Obituary notes Philip Goedecke aged 73 died at Drums was a miner and mineralogist who assisted in opening Markle coal lands. He is survived by three sons and a daughter including Arthur Goedecke. Funeral will be held at Drums Wednesday afternoon.
