Thanksgiving Day feature program promotes warm outerwear for winter. The store advertises Thanksgiving Overcoats for men youths and boys in various styles and cuts, plus clothing neckwear hats and footwear for all, with ladies offered dress goods and dry goods.
The Employes' Committee demanded reinstatement of all workers to their former positions. Superintendent Kudlich unconditionally accepted the proposal and the strikers ratified the settlement this afternoon.
The Coxe Bros. & Co strike ends after a conference with Superintendent Kudlich. The employee group approved the committee’s latest settlement offer at a mass meeting in Hazleton, and work will resume at Clifton collieries Friday morning. Unions credit Kudlich for the swift end and predict talks on affected railroad workers.
County Commissioners elect Finn and Schappert name the chief clerk and clerks for main and transcribing departments. Named are James Holman Hazleton at 1800, Devanney Gilligan Peters and more with salaries from 800 to 1500. Various transcribers listed. janitors and night watchman hired. Solicitorship may go to William S. McLean.
State Game Warden Hugh Malloy returned from an eight day tour of Bradford and Wyoming counties to investigate violations of game laws. He captured B B Custer of Laceyville who was fined 100 dollars plus costs for buying and selling game. Evidence against several others was secured and more arrests are expected. Malloy also hunted during the trip and brought home a plentiful Thanksgiving game supply.
Louis Switzer and Miss Annie Goeppert wed at the Goeppert home on Walnut street in a ceremony attended by family and friends. Afterward a wedding dinner followed and the couple plans a tour to Philadelphia Baltimore and Washington before settling back in town. Also Charles Washburn of Wilkes-Barre and Miss Mary Johnson joined in marriage at the bride’s mother’s home with a reception, and Edward L. Keck married Miss Jennie M. Barton at the bride’s residence with relatives present.
Robert Frizzle, 14, died after his left foot was trapped in a railroad switch on the Pennsylvania Railroad near Pottsville. The signalman failed to reach the boy in time as a passenger train approached, hurling him forty feet from the track. His death was certain after the tragedy unfolded.
President Alton F. Clark and the board of the Correspondence Institute of American in Scranton face a postal inquiry on charges of using the mails to defraud. The investigation, set to open December 3 in Washington, could lead to a stop order barring mail to the institute pending criminal trial. Also notes a looming smallpox issue in Scranton with four cases in the north end as winter nears.
Local notes cover travel plans of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Birkbeck to St. Augustine Florida with shipped horses and furniture. A Delirious John Jamison jumped from a second story window and was saved.
