The Democratic Convention discussed party platforms as Republican candidates for state offices were formally entered into the field, signaling upcoming campaign dynamics and voter engagement for the state races.
The Crescent Athletic Association elected officers including President Rocco Ricotto and Vice President James Gallagher. Recording secretary Francis Faltz and assistant recording secretary Richard Jacquot were chosen, with Louis Stoltz as treasurer and Patrick O'Donnell as guard. Two druggists facing court after waiving hearings on soda water sales. a Minooka constable Michael Davis sentenced to eighteen years for a saloon murder in February. a new counterfeit five dollar note circulated. a comic-like marriage license entry in Wilkesbarre. multiple local tragedies and municipal notes including a deadly lightning strike in Forty Port, and Shamokin receiving a federal building funding push.
Charles Grether and Benjamin Alollo escaped Monroe county jail in Stroudsburg during early hours yesterday. Faulty cell doors allowed the two murderers to walk free with little trouble. Last sighting placed them near North Water Gap. Sheriff Mervine’s twelve year old son discovered the open iron door in the yard. Grether had been convicted of first degree murder for shooting Adam Strunk during an attempted arrest for the Carlton House robbery at North Water Gap. Alollo was convicted of second degree murder for shooting Henry Lubar at Gravel Place on June 28.
