Freeland Central Labor Council adopts resolutions condemning Rear Admiral Melville for alleged misrepresentation in a Philadelphia Record interview about Pennsylvania coal miners. It cites strikes, housing, and calls for press publicity to correct impressions, with June 13 1902 date and names eleven local United Mine Workers unions.
Susanna Dressell of White Haven leaves $2,700 estate to children John George Dressell Kate Watson and Mary Oliver with executor Hiram Watson. Alfred N Henry of Briggsville leaves all to wife Laura Henry executrix. Joseph McMurtrie of Sugarloaf township estate valued at $29,500 with Sarah and Minor McMurtrie appointed administrators.
Andrew Hodobay, recently sent to assess Greek Catholic parishes in the United States, is named first archbishop of the Greek Catholic Church in the United States with Scranton as the see. He will relocate from Fresland to plan the archiepiscopal residence and lead Greek Catholics loyal to the pope. Orthodox Greek Catholics recognize the czar of Russia as their church head.
Thomas Sarricks of Sandy Run and Leah Parry of Upper Lehigh were wed last evening at the bride’s home in Foster township in a ceremony led by Rev. O G Langford. Witnesses included John Sarricks and Elizabeth Parry. The couple left for a honeymoon to Buffalo and Niagara Falls after a wedding supper.
Chairman Nicholas Kuech issues primary dates for Fourth district delegates to the Democratic state convention. Primaries run 5 to 7 pm Wednesday June 18 at regular polling places. Elected delegates meet June 19 at 2 pm in Hazleton to choose four state delegates.
Mrs. John Balrless died yesterday morning at the Rush Kunkle residence in Drifton aged 76. Funeral at 2 PM Saturday at the house conducted by Rev Swartz with interment at Vine Street Cemetery Hazleton by trolley. Survived by two daughters Mrs Rash Kunkle and Mrs Isaac Reifanyder. Lehighton reports smallpox cases all in South Lehighton with two confirmed and several expected. public health watch.
