Relatives of Ralph J. White, the man who killed a nephew and wounded another before dying by his own hand, filed suit to restrain Springville cemetery trustees from moving his body and to require safeguards against grave desecration. The case follows a decades long dispute over the grave, including prior removals and reburials.
Directors Bell Brogan Buckley Isaac Kelly Kline McCole McGeehan Shelhamer and Timony attended the January borough school board session. Vaccination policy was debated with regard to repeated ineffective vaccines and recent vaccinations. The board will follow Health Board guidance where laws are unclear. The steam heating contract with M M O Boyle was referred to the building committee as its term expired. A letter from Ex-Tax Collector Daniel Kline notes a 250 payment to the treasurer and requests a conference with the finance committee for final settlement. A night school petition was received.
Knights of Mystic Chain prepare for a week long fair at Krell’s opera house with 4 cent admission. Music is planned each evening by Citizens’ band St Ann’s band Concordia Singing Society Muncanereher Society Hazleton and others. Also noted is a state mining report listing 15638 workers in the Fifth anthracite district and ethnic counts.
Merry Katie Emmett stars in The Waifs of York at the Grand next Tuesday with a lavish carload of new scenery. The big Minstrels return next Thursday led by John W. Vogel and featuring about fifty performers and a full band and orchestra. Gus Cohan opens a three night run with a changing bill including Don't Tell My Wife and A Jolly Good Fellow with a matinee tomorrow.
Townspeople who cut ice at Coxe Bros caverns faced a summons from the coal company. In a Squire Shovlin hearing they settled by paying costs and agreeing to haul the ice back to the cave-ins. Officials allege cave water is impure while cutters say they intended for next summer’s cream and beer.
A message from New Haven Conn announces the death of Mrs. Andrew T. Furey at her home on Wednesday afternoon. She had resided for years in Freeland and surrounding areas before the family moved to New Haven. Funeral details were not provided and burial is expected in New Haven.
The movement to establish a national bank in town is under way with plans for a formal announcement soon. Local capitalists back the effort and expect the bank to be a paying investment and a convenience to business people engaging with such institutions.

The Democrats of Freeland borough announce a primary election in each election district on Saturday January 15 from 4 to 7 pm to elect delegates for a convention at Municipal Hall January 20 at 7 pm.
