Public notice announces a semi annual clearance at Rerowich's Wear Well freeland's. The sale features suits and overcoats priced around 8 to 9 dollars and children wear at below wholesale. On Wednesday January 15, 800 knee pants pairs will be offered at ten styles for one cent a pair.
The 500 foot long Coxe Tunnel under Quakake mountain completes after three years of work begun December 12, 1898. Planned by the late Eckley B. Coxe, the tunnel drains all Coxe works on Beaver Meadow, with future extensions to connect No 4 slope to No 2 slope. One fatal accident occurred during construction. The project will prevent mine inundations and drain adjacent Van Wickle collieries, with ongoing efforts to connect other Coxe properties.
The Foster township school board held a Saturday meeting with all members present except Direct or ONeill. President Johnson said the board, now a board of health, should plan for a suitable place to care for all township residents who might be affected.
John Campbell of South Ringe street died suddenly at Eckley on Saturday afternoon, likely from heart failure or apoplexy after leaving his work. He had lived in town two years, formerly Beckley for forty years. Survived by wife, seven children, two brothers, and a sister. Funeral at 9 tomorrow with a requiem mass at St. Ann's church and burial in St. Ann's cemetery.
Frank O'Donnell bought from John Rogan the livery stable he rented and the saloon property Rogan operated, with both remaining in business at current sites. John Mealey of Scranton sold his South Centre Street double dwelling to the Carrazza brothers of South Ridge Street, who plan to remodel and run a hotel there. Peter Thnong bought the Brennan corner property at Centre and South streets.
The Sacred Heart Literary Society at St. Ann's school elected officers led by President Miss Rose Gaffney and Vice President Master R. PeCora. Secretary Miss M. Bonoma Treasurer Miss M. Jacobs and others named for roles and duties. Yard day set for first Monday in February at the collieries in the Le High region with district union officers preparing.
The Big Minstrels return next Thursday at the Grand Opera House with new principals and a famed lineup. Arthur Rigby and Chas Gano lead a lively program featuring music, mirth, and the OBrien troupe. Miss Katie Emmett stars in Walls of New York. Also noted are the Gus Cohan Company and a roster of de luxe acts, with seats on sale.
Two suspected agents of a counterfeit gang were captured in Edwardsville by Deputy U S Marshal Wilson and Burgess Dando. Government detectives seized information from Joseph Strate near Pittston, leading to further arrests. Stanley Hendricks found with $150 in counterfeit coins. Felix Mascovayage arrested at a Kingston mine. Six men jailed in default of bail, tied to a Pittsburgh gang headquarters. The coins are tin mixed with Babbitt metal and glass and pass as genuine though light.
Mrs Bridget Gallagher 28 years old died yesterday at her husband Edward Gallagher’s home in Hazleton after leaving Bekley and Freeland in childhood. She leaves a two year old son, parents, and siblings James Shearon Bekley T Gallagher Sandy Valley Charles Farrell Freeland Daniel Marley Jeddo John James Bekley Anthony Ebervate Patrick Freeland. Funeral Wednesday at St Gabriels church at 10 with cortege via 11 51 Lehigh Valley to St Anns cemetery Freeland. Duryea reports a smallpox case Albert Barnes.

The Democrats of Freeland Borough schedule primary elections in each election district on Saturday January 18 102 from 4 to 7 pm to elect delegates for conventions at Municipal Hall January 20 102 at 7 pm for borough ward and district nominations. Delegation rules list three delegates per district in borough conventions and per ward in ward conventions. Also notices of stray dogs report a white bird dog and a brown setter found January 7 and 10 with owners invited to claim after proof of property and charges.
