Five months of winter loom as an advertisement urges preparedness. It promotes clothing items for men and women including overcoats shoes dress goods and dry goods and encourages customers to see goods and prices before buying.
Henry Coll testified that his wife died after the family was evicted by Markle & Co during the strike era. Other Markle workers described evictions, docked wages, high oil and paper taxes, unsafe mine conditions, and aid delays while unions pressed grievances. The commission heard personal losses and ill treatment as it prepared to hear Lehigh Valley Company cases.
Charles Grother, convict of Constable Adam Strunk, was captured Monday night in a barn near Fisher's Crossing after escaping Monroe county jail with Daniel Van Buskirk who remains at large. Charles W. Tammany of Wilkesbarre granted a new trial by the US court at Pittsburgh due to alleged law and evidence issues. County Treasurer-elect John J. Moore files a $150000 bond. bondsmen named. Dr. N C Schaefer urges reducing township school directors from six to five to avoid deadlocks. Major Pond offered US Mine Workers leader Mitchell eight lectures for 1600 dollars, declined.
An explosion of dynamite at No. 5 mine of the Lehigh and Wilkesbarre Coal Company in South Wilkesbarre killed four men instantly: Robert Humblebee aged 55, Arthur Jones 28, Matthew Phillips 36, and James McGlynn 35. Three others, George Knorr, Charles Stafford, and Thomas Evans, were fatally injured. Neil Sweeney, John Austin, Dominick Hart, and James Peckerns were injured but survived.
Judge Simonton ruled the store order tax law passed by the last legislature unconstitutional in the tax settlement case involving the state and Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company. The act taxed companies issuing store orders at 25 percent of face value, and after reports and a tax settlement, an appeal followed.
The Union band has been organized with fourteen members from Freeland and Upper Le high. Elected officers are President William Mealing Vice president Charles Bartosavitz Secretary John J. Edwards and Treasurer Jesse Nichols. The group will rehearse two nights weekly in the Third ward.

He testified John Markle dismissed him for alleged criminal acts, denied violence, and noted Markle sought military aid from President Roosevelt to operate mines but never tried to restart.
