A public informational meeting at Ovid School July 2 at 8 00 p m discusses the school district budget adopted for 1969 70. The board plans to present figures, answer residents questions, and the Annual Meeting will be July 8 at 8 00 p m.
In District I 171 of 370 voters participated, District II reported 83 of 374, and District I again 244 of 461. Elsie Boyd leads opponent R Bush county wide by about 500 votes at press time.
The Ovid Manning Lilla Post 463 hosted the Seneca County American Legion Convention on Saturday June 14 starting at 5 00 p m Officers for 1969 1970 were elected including Commander James W Wyckoff from Manning Lilla Post 463 and several vice adjutant and service posts with delegates and alternates to be announced later A turkey dinner followed by dancing closed the event with thanks from Commander William Sheppard and County Commander James W Wyckoff for the convention success
The Tri-City Board of Education held its final meeting of the year to hear district residents on admitting outside speakers for high school students. Parents fear an open door policy and SDS influence, while students push a voluntary program with optional attendance. A teacher notes concerns about motivation and balance, urging careful review before policy formation.
Supervisor Lawrence Wilkins announces an open meeting at 7 30 p m on Wednesday July 2 at the Ovid Municipal Building to discuss conditions at Ovid Town Park Sheldrake Point with town board members a state representative conservation officer Neilson Coonradt and residents. The board notes park washing and ground concerns are state issues to be discussed with authorities.
The May 6 board meeting approved a 1969 70 budget of 2 110 198 00 an estimated 6 increase over the year with a possible tax rise of about 1 97 per thousand though final rate depends on August assessment rolls. John Huttar named Annual Meeting chairman for July 8 and voting July 9. Lola Jackson Arlee Robinson Annis Sears Ruth Farrell and Audrey Murphy named election inspectors. Durkee's Domestic Bakery Cortland bid bread. J L Hammett Co Lyons bid paper and supplies. Maxfield Randolph Carpenter Ithaca to audit. Drainage work on the athletic field authorized under Soil Conservation Service. Margaret Baldwin to drive bus in fall. A request to transport a child to the School of the Immaculate Conception Ithaca was refused.
South Seneca Central School will hold two graduation services on Sunday June 22. Ovid High School graduates will hear Salutatory by Joan McIntosh and Valedictory by Joann Lind with diplomas presented by Stanley Van Vleet. Interlaken ceremony features State Senator Theodore D Day address Responsibility with diplomas by Charles Wickes. Valedictorian Eric Jordan Salutatorian Victoria Zimmerman speeches by John Bassette and Valerie Bassett MIT. Dr Robert Hammond awards prizes with Warren Hickman presenting diplomas. Charles Dickerson introduces speakers.
Ninety six seniors will graduate from Charles C. Dickerson High School this Sunday at 2 30 p m in Memorial Auditorium. Herbert I. Gross, senior lecturer.
Interlaken Fire Department carnival runs Thursday through Saturday June 19 20 21 with a big parade Friday at 7 p.m. Garden tractor contests begin Saturday at 1 p.m. Midway opens Thursday evening with kiddie events and half fare advance tickets. Prizes include a Black and Decker set and a hair dryer.
