Seneca Army Depot deer study reports surplus population goal
After a 1971 72 harvest, Seneca Army Depot and NYS Department of Environmental Conservation report a robust deer herd with strong fawn reproduction and high antler growth on 9000 acres. The project aims to overpopulate to develop indices for statewide herd management and permit decisions. Winter estimates total about 440 deer, with 307 harvested this season.
