Trumansburg Scouts Honored for Heroism at Legion Dinner

Three Trumansburg Boy Scouts received the American Legion Medal of Heroism at a Feb six awards event at Legion Home. Ralph Compton earned the medal for a water rescue saving his injured sister at Waneta Lake. Bruce Robinson presented the honor. Teammates Bruce and Mark Vann also earned the medal for aiding neighbor Edward Jamison during extensive burns in June 1965. George Boyer and Fred Hartsock led the ceremony, with five scouts named Eagle: Ralph Compton John Vandemark Jeff Vann James Duddleston Paul Poice.

Water bond sale approved in Trumansburg village

Trumansburg village board approved a resolution to issue 160000 in serial bonds to partly fund water expansion with 112000 in federal aid already granted. Trustee Remley questioned a 22000 prior spending in the water fund for engineering and plans fees. Election day set for March 18 and registration March 1 at the fire house with inspectors named.

Interlaken Mayor Secures Tree Replacement Pledge

Mayor Howard Jones announced that David I Shaub District Planning Engineer confirmed the Department of Transportation will replace some trees to be removed during Cayuga Street and Route 141 reconstruction. He echoed Harold Tarbell's January 23 hearing remarks in Ovid.

Ovid town officials, including Walter Odomirok and Paul Christensen, report higher insurance for the Municipal Building and town vehicles at a Friday meeting. They propose increasing building coverage from 15 000 to 40 000, with annual premium rising from 200 to 300 after a fire hazard near the chimney is addressed.

Burglary and Bomb Threat disrupt Trumansburg High

Trumansburg Central School faced a bomb threat called into Principal Dr. Robert Hammond disrupting classes. The call warned of a bomb at 10 a.m and led to evacuations while police investigated. Earlier that week burglars damaged the school, stealing multiple electric typewriters and office equipment.
