He called for repeal of railroad certificate provisions and restoration of state rights to operate Texas railroads.
The main entrance bridge at Fredericksburg Park, damaged by floods, has been rebuilt and is now open. Five railroad workers finished the project in four days with supervision by H A Ries and W A Luekenbach. The park pool and water works have been restored, with local volunteers funding the work. Twenty one furnished cottages remain for guests. Formal park opening date to be announced.
Miss Mary Neal Brodie and Miss Stella Jung will open a summer school at the Grammar Grades Building in Fredericksburg on Wednesday June 4. Prospective students or interested residents should contact the two teachers on or before June 4 for information.
A meeting of the Public School Auxiliary is set for Friday June 6 at 4 PM in the High School Building. Members are urged to attend.
Miss Julia Estill celebrated twenty five years as a Fredericksburg Public School teacher with a Friday May 23 reception at the Nimitz hosted by the Public School Auxiliary. More than two hundred friends and former pupils attended as scouts escorted the Estills and a varied program of music and tributes followed.
St Marys closes with the grammar and high school graduates, 21 grammar pupils and 13 high school graduates. Rev J B Michel O M I of San Antonio delivered the address. Diplomas were conferred by Father Heckmann with a program including music by May Stein and Ludwina Gentemann and several vocal numbers and readings.
The Cherry Springs Lutheran Congregation marked 25 years since forming during Civil War era origins when members split from Zion’s and met at Dietrich Rode’s home. Rev. C Ziehe led the event with Rev. Rudolf Becker and neighboring clergy, a Luther League program, and speeches by Revs. Heinecke and Koerner. The day featured morning and afternoon services and drew many friends from near and far.
The Gilgal Aid Association will hold its annual meeting Saturday June 7 at 2 PM at the house in Fredericksburg. Founded in 1893, over 37 years it issued 155 assessments and paid 249 death claims. The group reports a $28,000 reserve fund and invites members aged 21 to 45 to consider buying insurance. Officers from last year will report and be up for election.
The Fredericksburg Methodist Episcopal Church South plans a Diamond Jubilee celebration on June 6 7 and 8. Founded in 1849 by missionary Edward Schneider the church began in a log cabin near Ludwig Kneese’s property.
Manager Stahl announces a complete sound upgrade at the Palace Theatre after purchasing a Universal Sound system in Dallas. The new method films sound on the same film to stay in sync, using a giant horn for softer tones. Philadelphia factory representative to supervise installation with extensive acoustical work, closing show for a few days and reopening date to be announced.
Fredericksburg Lions semi monthly banquet at Hotel Nimitz featured Colonel Alfred Petsch as principal speaker on municipal government. A study of a municipal band was proposed with joint Lions and St. Mary's Auxiliary and Public School Auxiliary representatives to report. Summer meetings move to 7 pm on every second Wednesday. An entertainment program for the next luncheon will be prepared by E. B. Calvin and Felix L. Wilke.
