A registered Jersey cow and her heifer, owned by Henry Roe der, were struck and killed by lightning on Sunday morning.
Gilbert F. Jordan, a Fredericksburg native and Texas A and M graduate, is appointed Arkansas Division Traffic Superintendent for Southwestern Bell with headquarters in Little Rock. The promotion follows a career as District Traffic Chief in Houston, Beaumont, Ft. Worth, and St. Louis, plus wartime service, ending with his role in eastern Missouri before this latest appointment.
At Harper an election last Saturday approved issuing 14000 dollars in bonds to fund improvements and enlargement of the Harper school. In Crab Apple, a school tax proposition of up to 25 cents was approved with 53 votes 28 for and 25 against.
Will Speak Here E. E. Pat Murphy announces a campaign speech at Fredericksburg Court House on Monday May 26 at 8 P M. Murphy a San Angelo lawyer and West Texas native is a World War veteran and endorses tariff protections for livestock hides wool and mohair. He plans to meet ex service men and discuss disabled veterans concerns.
The planned formal opening of the swimming pool at Fredericksburg Tourist Park next Sunday May 25 was postponed due to flood waters last week that destroyed a bridge in the park and cannot be replaced in time for Sunday traffic. The pool has been open about a week with many swimmers and a new opening date will be announced soon.
Last Tuesday the Jacob Gold family received word from Ernst Gold of Riverside California that his son Ernst Jr. was seriously ill. The following day another message announced his death. Sympathy is extended to aged grandparents Mr and Mrs Jacob Gold of here and to Mr and Mrs Ernst Gold in California.
Census figures place Gillespie County population at 11021, up 1006 from 1920. Fredericksburg area accounts for much of the gain, with Justice Precinct 1 totaling 5125. Other precincts list 728, 1025, 871, 432, 1347, 960, and 533 respectively.
The Fredericksburg public school term closes with grammar grade commencement Tuesday night and senior class exercises Wednesday. Rev F A Bracher addressed grammar grads. 35 diplomas awarded by Louis Brodie. Senior address by Herman H Ochs. 36 graduates receive diplomas and honors. A campus pageant and special gifts to long–time teacher Miss Julia Estill marked the event.
The Fredericksburg community urges moving summer celebrations and closing exercises to the Fair Grounds Grandstand for better seating lighting and comfort. The letter praises the current programs while noting inadequate facilities and asks the Fair Association and Central Power and Light Company to consider installing lighting at little or no cost to citizens.
