Washington Beef Fight Highlights Federal Budget Confusion
Washington squabbles over Argentine versus American beef reveal broader policy tensions. The President backs Argentine beef for sailors, while Congress bans foreign meat in Navy funds. The 48 000 pounds involved save under $4 000, amid broader unease over government economics and balanced budgets. A separate note on two housewives summoned by the Monopoly Investigating Committee highlights fiscal pressures. The Agriculture Department plans another half million to audit such practices and 200 000 square miles more land to be photographed from the air.
