Vernon Kneese Killed In Tuesday Night Auto Crash

Vernon Vallie Kneese 15 son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Kneese died after a car crash on West Main Street. His car sideswiped an eastbound vehicle and overturned, Kneese pinned beneath wreckage and died at a local hospital fifteen minutes later. Witnesses and sheriff report both other occupants uninjured. Funeral services set for May 20 at Schaetter Funeral Home and First Methodist Church with burial in City Cemetery. Survivors include his parents and four sisters.

Summer Play Nights To Be Held Again In Fredericksburg Park

The weekly Friday night play program for children up to eight returns this summer in courthouse park. Sponsored by the Pre-School Section of the Fredericksburg PTA, the event attracts many families and will add new equipment funded by local firms and civic groups. Five mothers and six Senior Girl Scouts will supervise each Friday starting in June, with mothers invited to watch or join in.

Commissioners Name Airport Zoning Committee

The Gillespie County Commissioners Court formed an airport zoning committee of five Hans Hannemann Fred Ma thisen Alfred Petsch Alfred Neffendorf and Eric Juenke to set hazard area boundaries and hold hearings. A Juvenile Board was created with jurisdiction by the District Judge and County Judge. compensation capped at 300 yearly. Public hearings planned, report to court. The county approved a rise in Fredericksburg Volunteer Fire Department contributions to 750 annually due to cross‑boundary calls. County Judge Henry Hirsch granted leave May 17 to 28. Percy Nielsen reappointed public weigher. County fund balances listed, including airport sinking and Federal Aid Gillespie Airport totaling 29 299.75.</S>

Lions Club Donates To Scouts And Plans Benches

Fredericksburg Lions Club contributed 100 dollars to Gillespie County Girl and Boy Scout groups from funds raised by minstrel shows. They also voted to buy two benches for Fredericksburg Tourist Park with offers from Mutual Lumber and Stein Lumber to donate two benches each.

Historical Review to Feature Gillespie Homecoming Fest

A historical review of Gillespie County will be a feature of the first annual Homecoming June 12 13. The June 12 show before the grandstand at the Fair Grounds will depict county history as the area marks its centennial. Communities will supply a young lady per community. Rev Holm Installed as Pastor at Doss and Cherry Spring

Lonny Zwiener, 23, UT Austin student, seeks the 85th District state representative seat currently held by incumbent Tom Martin. Other filings include Roscoe Runge for district attorney, Sam Connally, Campbell K. Ford, Howell Cobb, C. Fisher, Charles L. South, and Thomas C. Ferguson for district judge.

Graduation events mark Fredericksburg city and St Marys

Baccalaureate for Fredericksburg High School’s 1948 class is Sunday May 23 at 8 15 p m in the Public School Auditorium. Commencement for FHS seniors is Thursday May 27 on the Lighted Athletic Field. St Mary’s 1948 graduates are Sunday May 30 in church. Rev Lindenberg delivers the sermon with FHS band, choir, and processional.

Fredericksburg Pool Draws Record Crowds Operated by Scouts

The Fredericksburg swimming pool in the old tourist park reports record attendance since opening two weeks ago with peak crowds Sunday surpassing a hundred. Dr. Dor Brown, Scout master, notes daily sanitation checks and claims the troop is delivering a fully approved pool run by Senior Boy Scouts Freddie Hannemann and Presley Arbelger, supported by the whole troop. Local guests included Mrs. Herman Gold and family visiting Miss Anna and Alwina Gold.

PTA Officers Installed In Final Meeting Of Year

The 1947 48 PTA year closed May 12 in the High School Auditorium with installation of next year’s officers by Mrs. A J Lochte. Reports from officers and chairmen followed, plus letters from state and district presidents and a cookie donation thank you from the Alamo Camp and Hospital committee.
