Grand Jury Returns Four Indictments in Gillespie County
The Gillespie County Grand Jury met in special session and returned four indictments. Gordon B. Brant received two burglary charges and two-year sentences for each. Lester Riggs, 17, was indicted on two burglary counts and released on his own recognizance. Riggs’ twin brother and four others aged 15 to 17 were released with no indictments. Two civil cases were settled or decided. The jury urged stricter road safety and warned against reckless driving across Fredericksburg and county highways.

City Announces New Policeman Night Watchman and Fire Truck Plan
City Commission announced appointment of Rudy Franke as City Policeman and Alfred Ellebracht as night watch man with effect June 1. They will erect stop signs at North Milam and West Austin and signs at Pioneer Memorial Museum to direct traffic right of the building. The city also authorized a new fire truck purchase with chassis from local dealers and revised fire station use contract with Fredericksburg Independent School District.

Fredericksburg plans its first annual Homecoming on June 12 and 13 as Gillespie County marks its centennial. Barn Fire Destroys Richard Kott Place Farm
A Tuesday night blaze destroyed the Richard Kott barn fifteen miles west of Fredericksburg on Harper Road. One hundred bushels of speltz and similar corn, mixed feed and baled hay were burned. A tractor, automobile and jersey cows were removed before the building burned. Fredericksburg and Harper volunteer departments fought the fire past midnight. Origin unknown with theories it started from green feed or lightning.

National Guard Armory To Be Erected At Hennig Place
The National Guard plans a 40 by 120 foot quonset hut armory on the Alfred Hennig farm two miles west of Fredericksburg on Harpur Highway. The $18,000 project will house the Service Battery 155th Field Artillery Battalion with two officers, a warrant officer and 44 enlisted men. Local workers will build floor and foundation. Austin Construction to erect the structure. land donated by Mr and Mrs Hennig. Completion expected in three weeks once started. papers are pending approval by the State Armory Board.

Jaycees Continue Bicycle Safety Campaign With Scotch-Lite Tape
Fredericksburg Jaycees extended its bicycle safety program by visiting Public and St Marys School to apply Scotch-Lite reflective tape to bicycles.
