Fredericksburg Chamber Banquet Marks Road Bond Victory

The Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce held a banquet at Klaerner's Hall to toast the May 20 road bond election in Gillespie County. Speakers included E H Riley, County Judge Wallace, Herman Usener, Goar, Kneese, Striegler, Julius Real, and Groos. Also noted are high school diplomas at Klaerner's Opera House and local sports notes.

County Officials Seek Reelection in General Election

All current county officeholders plan to run for their present posts in the November 3 general election except Sheriff Alfred Klaerner who has said he will not seek another term. Roping Contest Highlight of July 4 Festivities in Fredericksburg

Gillespie County roping club members will form two teams for a July 4th feature at the American Legion sponsored celebration in Fredericksburg. The program includes band concerts and a Main Street parade at 2:30 p.m. and a nighttime dance. Alfred Neffendorf notes further details will follow. Gillespie County Approves Salt Branch Road Upgrade

County commissioners in June ordered a 40 foot wide Salt Branch road from Walter Itz place to the Mason County line with land donated by Ad Evers and Walter Itz. They set a June 24 board of equalization session and approved a $351.49 payment on road indebtedness. The district tax was confirmed at 50 cents per $100 value after a Palo Alto district No. 6 vote.

Fredericksburg High School Granted 5 Percent More State Credits

Fredericksburg High School receives five and a half additional state affiliation credits, raising total affiliated credits to 34. Superintendent S H Smyre announced the extra credits in physiology Spanish I Spanish II Band Music Applied Music and Home Economics to extend the school's accredited offerings.

Four Gillespians Reported Missing from War

War Department letters informed Gillespie County parents that four youths in action in the Far Pacific are missing or unreported. The missing are Jimmy Schandua Robin Althaus Raymond Wuest and Alvin Moldenhauer, sons of local families. The notice ends with continued coverage on page 4.

Gillespie County Shifts to New Ranger District

Gillespie County and five other Central Texas counties move from the San Angelo Ranger District to District 2. R L Batte of the Hill Country Livestock Protective Association announced the realignment affecting Gillespie Kerr Kimble Bandera Edwards and Real counties. Defense Metal Working Course Starts Monday

A metal working course opens Monday evening at Fredericksburg High School under the defense training program. Open to males aged 16 to 25, the class runs five nights weekly at 7 p m with instructor Arno Klinksick guiding youth through real projects. Participants may bring county projects for student fabrication. labor is free, materials must be provided by the owner.

Notifying Standard Urges Verification of Missing Youths

Gillespie County residents urged to report missing youths directly to the Standard to confirm rumors. This week seven or eight youths were said missing but four named youths were confirmed with parental notification, avoiding parental hardship and alarm from rumors.

Willie Johanson son of Mrs. Everett Alexander of Willow City joins four others as missing in action this week. The letters from families confirm their sons are unaccounted for following actions in the Philippines.

County Meeting Sets Course for Fredericksburg Railroad Purchase

Gillespie County residents must decide at a Saturday 4 p m meeting at Fredericksburg High School Auditorium whether to buy the Fredericksburg and Northern Railroad. New Auto Tax Stamps On Sale Here

The five dollar Federal automobile tax stamps, valid for the year starting July 1, are now on sale at the local post office. They replace the February stamp, which cost owners 2.09, and include spaces on the back to record the vehicle’s make, model, serial number and state license.
