Parade Entries Sought For Fourth of July Event
Fredericksburg and Gillespie County residents and businesses are invited to enter the July 4 parade scheduled for Saturday 2:30 p m. No prize money will be offered this year to ease the emergency budget. Entries may feature patriotic comical or historical motifs with costumes side-saddle ponies or decorated wagons. The parade includes two of Fredericksburgs bands and a 3:30 p m program at the Fair Grounds followed by a dance that night.

Four Face Liquor Burglary Charge In Gillespie
Local peace officers led by Sheriff Al fred Klaerner arrested four men in Gillespie County for the Cherry Spring Liquor Store burglary of May 5 and seek a fifth leader. Pete Pruitt and Irae D Cartwright and Calvin Pierce posted bonds or await trial. Cartwright and Pierce pled not guilty, Pruitt remains jailed on a higher bond. Others linked in warrants include Charles Fuller O V Pierce Charles C McNarlen Walter Allen and Joe Cross as state rangers and liquor board agents confiscated liquor and closed the store. The ring is thought connected to similar burglaries across Southwest Texas including Menard Llano Odessa Cameron Trinity and Waco.

A near cyclonic wind Sunday night into Monday morning caused unestimated crop and property damage across the county. In Fredericksburg trees were stripped, signs torn, and a large plate glass window in the Schaefer Building demolished. Rural areas saw late corn flattened. no significant rain fell, though there was an electrical display. Rev and Mrs J F Holm of Muscatine Iowa visit with Rev and Mrs O Lindenberg. Mrs Reinhard Pietsch and Olga of Shiner, Mr and Mrs Emanuel Pietsch of Cuero, and Mr and Mrs Herman Reus of Hondo visited Mrs O H Wunderlich and children Sunday.

Lutheran Boy Scouts Start Four-Week Camp Tom Wooten
Thirteen members of the Lutheran Boy Scout troop led by Scoutmaster Victor Sagebiel departed Sunday for Camp Tom Wooten near Austin for a four week session. They joined 100 scouts from San Marcos Austin Gonzales Luling Georgetown Llano and Smithville and will be joined by more than 700 local scouts. the program emphasizes war service training and Emergency Service for Senior Scouts. A parents’ campfire was held Wednesday evening to view the campfire program.

Fifth Registration Set For Tuesday June 30 18 20 Year Olds
Gillespie County Selective Service Board announces registration for men born January 1 1922 to June 30 1924 aged 18 to 20 on Tuesday June 30. Registration will take place in Harper Stonewall and Fredericksburg from 7 am to 9 pm with care to give correct addresses for official communications. General J Watt Page notes about 220 000 Texans will register and that the fifth registration completes the national manpower inventory though those under twenty are not subject to combat induction. Registrants away from home may register at the most convenient place but should record their home address for forwarding. Once registered a person may designate a home residence and corresponding local board.

County Rubber Salvage Drive Now Underway
County and city officials urge Gillespie County residents to join the nation wide scrap salvage effort ending June 30. A five member committee will organize collection of rubber items from homes and businesses with filling stations buying scrap rubber at one cent per pound.
