Construction on Gillespie Countys new airport advances rapidly using modern machinery. The project marks the 100th anniversary of the Free State of Gillespie with a contrast to pioneer days when settlers first arrived by Liveoak Creek. Highly specialized equipment from J R Canion and Rex D Kitchens Construction Co. completed in twenty days what would once take much longer, reflecting a leap from oxen hauled timber to mechanized buildout.

Weather Summary: Inch of Rain in County This Week
An inch of rain fell in most parts of the county on Monday and Tuesday with the heaviest amount late Tuesday night. Temperatures stayed above freezing except Sunday morning at 27 degrees. Forecast calls for cooler weather Thursday and Friday with additional rain expected. Local observer Mrs. Otto Arhelger notes a weak norther headed toward San Angelo but it died out.

Gillespie Entrants Take Major Honors In Annual Hill Country Livestock Show
Gillespie County hosts winners at the Hill Country Livestock Show as entrants win major honors. The Boy Scout finance drive neared two thousand dollars after the first day, reaching 1991.50 with hopefuls to contribute. Joe S. Petsch, drive chair, urged more solicitations and contact at his Striegler building office. The kickoff breakfast was at the Nimitz Hotel with about sixty volunteers. Dr. Leon F. Zwiener, district chairman, spoke and encouraged continued solicitation.

Behrend Garage is named the new Studebaker dealer for Gillespie County by Studebaker Motor Company and Helmuth Behrend owner of the local firm. The 1948 Studebaker will be shown at Behrend Garage on West Main Street with an invitation to Fredericksburg residents to view the new model. Studebaker offers Champion Commander and Land Cruiser with new styling and engineering.

District Court Trials Begin As Nine Indictments Are Leveled

Arson charge against William Doyle Biddy of Lampasas stems from a Seipps Dance Hall fire on Christmas night killing four.
