Illinois to cut workers' comp costs with rate cut and new law
The Illinois Department of Insurance and insurers, with employers and unions, agree to an 8.4 percent rate reduction effective August 1, while a three year old lawsuit against rate setting must be withdrawn and the measure ratified. Senate Bill 1496 would require insurers to compete on price, not fix rates, and awaits Gov. Thompson's signature. Atty. Gen. Fahner says the changes could save Illinois employers 80 to 90 million dollars next year.
