Washington May 4 The convention of lawyers to be held in this city on the 22d promises to be important. The bar association of this district invites every national state and local bar association to send delegates. A large proportion of principal states and cities have already appointed delegations. The district association has named a fifteen member arrangements committee nine of whom are delegates. The aim is to form a permanent organization with representatives from every bar association in the country. The group seeks uniformity in legislation on bills of exchange and promissory notes, conveyancing formalities wills procedures and divorce among other matters to reduce current confusion.

Deadly bullets in Jackson murder tale shocks New Mississippian
E L Martin publisher of the New Mississippian was shot while meeting General Adams and a friend near his home in Jackson. An eye witness, Walter Johnson, said Adams fired killing Martin after a brief confrontation. Martin died minutes later saying I am a dead man. Adams, aged 65 to 70, was a prominent Mississippian and the incident prompted an investigation amid questions about four shots from a pistol with three chambers.
