Rebels take control of a border city in Mexico after insurgent assault prompts its surrender. Military forces report heavy fighting along the border town as authorities declare the area under rebel control.
In El Paso on February 27 rebels seized municipal offices and key buildings before U S patrols restored order. Rebels retreated after clashes with few casualties as the siege ended and authorities announced efforts to restore communications and prevent looting.
Pioneer resident of Port Waren, P Schulthheis, dies after long illness. He came from Basil Switzerland two years after arrival in the United States. Survived by wife Caroline Pritzlin Daweny, five children Louis Philip August and John, one daughter, and one brother Louis in Basil. Funeral service at Saint Marys Catholic Church and burial at Catholic cemetery.
The Woman's League in Fort Wayne advocates lowering streetcar steps to ease boarding and alighting. Clubs affiliated with the league favor reform and plan to bring the issue to the general meeting. Officials of the traction company may face action as pay as you ride cars are introduced.

The fire began on the third floor and officials and residents worked to rescue others with Mary Edison credited for discovering the fire and guiding children to safety.
In Fort Wayne the Roosevelt movement draws little Republican support as Edwin M. Lee plans a Friday gathering at the Anthony hotel to organize in the Twelfth district. Local leaders, wary of Taft, lean casual support toward Roosevelt but stay with the regular party for now.
A ten year old girl, daughter of state veterinarian W F E Coover, asks Governor Marshall to legally change her name to Bill. Her call to the governor’s secretary prompts plans for the governor to consider the unusual request when he returns to the office in Arizona.
