A westbound Pennsylvania Limited train wreck near Larwill leaves five men dead and about a half dozen injured. Authorities investigate the crash cause as survivors recount the collision and emergency crews respond to the scene.
A rear collision near Larwill, Indiana, between a westbound passenger train and a wreck train from Fort Wayne, leaves five dead and about twenty injured. Coroner Briggs investigates a fifth unidentified body as rescue efforts reveal charred remains, a chaotic scene, and a rapid blaze amid dense fog.
A Larwill wreck leaves several dead and many injured. Victims include VIAN SPOLPT MAN and AUGUST BAILEY instantly killed, with FRAN WIRGAND, C. Stump, and FREDERICK DOBBERIKAT among the dead or seriously hurt. Others such as George Rupert and Ernest Flerderhorst sustain serious injuries. numerous patients are treated at St. Joseph's hospital and related facilities.
Washington reports Secretary of Agriculture Wilson denied author ship of a circulated letter touting Everglades land prospects. The draft letter by an East Coast group claimed vast, perfect climate and high profits, urging small holdings for home and wealth, with a note to continue on Page 6.
The Pennsy special eastbound passenger train collided with a freight car shifter’s engine near Middletown nine miles from Harrisburg. Firemen on both trains were seriously injured, but no passengers were killed though many were shaken. The wreck was blamed on a misrouted switch by the shifting crew. the express engineer stated he was traveling about sixty miles an hour and credits the shifter’s prompt reversal with preventing a worse disaster.
Attorneys Somers and Kennerh filed an involuntary bankruptcy petition in federal court against Wayne Manufacturing Company. The firm is already under court-appointed receivership, and the property was scheduled for sale today in the state court proceedings.
Knights of Columbus council No 45 adopts plan to build a modern five story home on a 60 by 120 foot Jefferson Harrison street lot valued at 15000. Construction to cost about 60000 with stores offices club rooms lodge rooms and an assembly hall plus a stage. Work not starting this season to avoid tenant disturbance.
