Dunn Granted Bail After Years in Jail in 1907 Case
Charles W. Dunn, imprisoned since July 8, 1901 for the Alice Cothrell murder, is granted bail of $5,000 after his attorney Samuel L. Morris argues the delay makes a timely retrial unlikely. Populist Party Calls National Convention in St Louis
Joliet Illinois December 2 1907 Chairman James H Ferris of the populist national committee issued a call for a populist national convention to be held in St Louis on April 2 1908 to name presidential and vicepresidential nominees and transact other business. The plan provides two delegates per congressional district four delegates at large per state and territory plus one delegate at large for every thousand votes or majority fraction thereof for the 1904 Peoples Party ticket. Citizens favoring action independent of the two old parties and endorsing the Gompers platform are eligible to affiliate and participate. The call argues reform requires an independent party free from predatory affiliations to curb banks and stock jobbers and restore rule of the people.
