Thirteen prisoners were confined in the county jail when seven fled last night during a period of corridor freedom. The escapees include Jeff Porter Henry Gill Jeff Townsend Solomon Walton Bill Huskey Buck Baker and Ed Morton. A large posse searches the area for them.

In Avsia Iowa on April 11 a railway engineer John G Roberts died in a collision during a blinding storm. He had earlier fallen for Sadie Taylor of Albia and, after an accident left him mangled, she nursed him back to health. He then wrote a will leaving a Lincoln house and lot and named her beneficiary of an $8 000 life policy. The sweetheart’s father brought home the remains but an alleged divorced wife claimed the body and was buried in West Virginia. Rumors say heirs may contest the will. Blaine Will Be a Candidate. Washington April 11 Secretary Blaine says he may not withdraw his name if entered in 1892 presidential race. He said he would support Harrison for re nomination while Blaine’s friends plan to press for his candidacy.

Forty five years ago yesterday Patrick Ryan city weighmaster left Ireland for America aboard the Queenstown bound ship on April 14, 1847. The voyage brought ship fever and many deaths including his mother and oldest sister in Quebec and Boston hospitals.
