American Vessels Carried Troops to France in War Convoys

New York Dec 10 Figures released by Vice Admiral Gleaves show the share of troops conveyed to France aboard American vessels. Of 2,079,880 soldiers transported, 46¼ percent were on American ships, 48½ percent on British ships, the rest on French and Italian vessels. US naval escorts carried 82¼ percent, Britain 14⅛ percent, France 3⅛ percent. Not a single soldier aboard US transports was lost.

Rumley Appears as Indicted in New York Arraignment

Edward Rumely, who allegedly bought the Evening Mail with German funds, was arraigned in New York on an indictment from Washington accusing him of not reporting alien property holdings and of concealing stock control for Germany. His counsel prepared to contest removal to Washington as a perjury case bond of $85,000 covered half the Washington charge. the hearing was adjourned to December 17.

Paris Dec 10 Organization of schooling for the American army in France has advanced with recruitment estimates placing enrollments near 50,000. Programs cover commercial, academic, industrial trades, and university tracks. classrooms will be in existing schools and army post centers, with teachers drawn from U S and French staff and a 12 lesson course structure.

NY Hospital Operates On Man For Brain Trouble

Charles Kane was operated on in New York City last Saturday for relief from tram and carbuncle at the back of the brain. The Mischof fia hospital on Bighfyssieth street performed the operation. While the patient’s condition is serious, it is not considered dangerous and chances for a speedy recovery are said to be good according to a telegram from the attending physician. Sergeant Russell Holtry severely wounded on the Western front, listed as from 409 Fuple street in this city, has been confirmed by travel through war department casualty lists. Bernhardt to have another operation in Paris after returning to the United States, following prior amputation of her right leg. An April operation in New York was for injuries from defective heating apparatus, with a $75,000 damages claim against a company.
