Civil Service Expansion Extends To Interstate Commerce

Washington May 8 The president issued an order extending civil service rules to the Interstate Commerce Commission bringing all offices under the classified service except presidentially nominated and senate approved chief executive roles. The move covers about 85 200 government positions. Indiana May 8 The Republican convention adjourned at 3:30 this morning after nominating appellate court judges in each district.

Indian Shot for Murder at Pushmataha Court Grounds

Charles Homes, a full blood Choctaw, was legally shot by Deputy Sheriff Bob Jackson at the Pushmataha court grounds near Antlers I T for murdering Charles Kip Tubby, his stepson in law. Homes died ten minutes after being shot, 1 58 o clock. Religious services had been held at the courthouse.

Death of Mrs Mary Ann Williams at 41 Prince Street

At 6 o'clock yesterday evening Mrs Mary Ann Williams aged 82 died at her home 41 Prince Street from blood poisoning. The deceased was born in Ireland and resided in the city for many years. The funeral will be held tomorrow morning from the residence and the remains will be interred at Lindenwood.

At Shanghai a Petrel crew beat eight Britons after a searchlight insult. The Spartan officer apologized, but eight Petrel men fought twenty Spartans in a bar, with the British consul ruling the Americans were in the right. Meanwhile notices mention Fort Wayne and New York travel times via Wabash.

Cruel Lover Ends Life Near Middlepoint

In Deurhos Ohio on May 8 a sad love affair ended tragically when Minnie Allen a popular young woman from near Middlepoint killed herself. The fiancé Semerdinger from near Van Wert was due for a wedding that never happened after he allegedly refused to read her note requesting why he disappointed her. The note was returned by the messenger. The case centers on a broken engagement and a fatal act.

Coroner Harrod's Verdict in May Stevens Case Contested

Last evening Coroner Harrod delivered his verdict in May Stevens's death at the Washington house. Dr J H Kappel is implicated for being intoxicated and for alleged improper treatment. A post mortem showed heart, stomach, kidneys removed and morphine in the body. verdict claims death from morphine effects aided by Dr Kappel's treatment. Dr Kappel's supporters dispute the findings and plan further action.
