The convention pace begins with indications that McKinley will be instructed to support him. A fight starts today as supporters rally around the candidate. Harrison plans a speech to stem the tide and sway undecided delegates.
In IxpiaNwarouis on May 7 the district conventions largely instructed their delegates to vote for McKinley at today's convention, nine of thirteen districts backing instructions while the Third, Fourth, Seventh and Ninth districts refused. Antis organize as McKinley momentum grows, with General Wallace and Mason speaking pro McKinley and Harrison referenced by crowd reaction.
Frank Novak's Walford store was burglarized Monday night with the safe blown open. About $2000 in cash and $1000 in notes were taken. No clues. police seek robbers as authorities notify towns in the area. remarks mention St Louis Republican Convention excursions in mid June.
A giant bull owned by Charles Pape ran amok through Maxierra Ohio injuring several and fatally ending the life of guard dogged by a marksman shot. E R Williams a cripple was knocked down and badly bruised with serious internal injuries while Stephen West was trampled and left in critical condition. Wisconsin Attorney General Mylrea petitions the Supreme Court to nullify the Wisconsin Electric Medical College in Milwaukee. He alleges the school never employed teachers, instead issuing diplomas to applicants who answered up to 40 sworn questions from home, with no records of diploma recipients kept. The note then shifts to unrelated steamship and railroad advertisements for Nickel Plate lines to Cleveland with low fares and sale dates.
Philadelphia May 7 Holmes was hanged on time his neck broken by the fall. He retained his nerve to the end, prayed, shook hands with officials, and after a misalignment on the drop dropped into execution. Mrs Peitzel remains to seek restitution from the defrauded funds.
The newly elected mayor administered the oath as Monning was sworn in as clerk, while the councilmen took their oaths of office. The ceremony marked the start of the new administration with key city officials officially in place.
The city administration changed hands at noon today as H. P. Scherer, the successful mayoral candidate, took the oath of office in the county clerk's room. The new police superintendent appointment is expected to follow tomorrow.
Belief Kate Stetson may have taken her own life circulated in Boston with friends and relatives denying the claim. The cause of Mrs Stetson’s death is alleged exhaustion and heart failure, though she was not known to have heart trouble and had been an active equestrienne, dancer, and bicyclist.
Joseph Pohl aged 58 collapsed and died at his brother Henry Pohl’s home 36 Buchanan Street from heart trouble. Coroner Harrod conducted an inquest into the death and laid out preliminary findings.

Frank Shields, a known troublemaker, killed John Wade with a single barrel shotgun near Wade Bros saloon in Edinburg after a noon altercation. Wade, 50, a noted racing man who once drove Red Cloud, died instantly. Shields was captured, jailed in Franklin. Wade leaves a wife and three children.

She says she will go away after meeting a traveling man named Stark last Sunday and declares she intends to marry him and slope from home. The public mystery centers on the identity of Stark and Ida’s exact plans.
The oath was administered by F. J. Belot deputy county clerk and papers signed by County Clerk Harry M Metzger. Mayor Scherer pledged duties before a crowd, then swore in councilmen Borkenstein Fisher Bubhr Tigar Waltemath and Henry Manning as city clerk. Bonds set at 85000 for the mayor and 5000 for the clerk with named securities. Possible candidates for police superintendent include A M Smith and Wall Duffy.
A plasterer visiting Fort Wayne to seek work collapsed while carrying plaster to an upper room in his brother's house. He died three weeks after arriving, leaving a wife and children informed of the tragedy. The deceased's remains will be shipped to Coldwater.
A Missouri Synod meeting devoted much time to the new catechism with sections reviewed and committees on missions reporting. Nearly $100,000 was appropriated. lack of funds noted for home and emigrant missions. Emigrant work in New York and Baltimore praised. Minneapolis urged to support two city missions. Pastor Sauer’s funeral arrangements set for Friday afternoon with delegates and district presidents to follow the procession to the final resting place.
Harry Saylor, a 35-year-old hospital inmate from Antwerp, died after tearing a window screen and falling from a second story window at St. Joseph's Hospital on Broadway. He had been treated for mental illness, his death attributed to chest injuries and a head wound. Remains shipped to Antwerp. he left a wife and five children.

Jackson close until late. Other scores include Newcastle over Wheeling 16 to 5 and Saginaw over Toledo 11 to 2.
