Crusade for Freedom Drive Planned by Forest Park Legion
Plans for a funds drive for Radio Free Europe take shape with Forest Park American Legion Auxiliary led by Mrs. William Schlupp, urging local service groups to support. Mayor William Meyer proclaims April as Crusade for Freedom Week to boost awareness of the drive and its 28 transmitters in West Germany and Portugal. The program offers about 3,000 hours weekly of news across frequencies to counter Soviet jamming and promote anti-Communist views abroad.
