Village seeks volunteers for an auxiliary firemen corps to assist regular crews on extra alarm fires and emergencies. Applications available at village hall or Forest Park Fire Department. Enlistments limited to residents over 20, with details on requirements and benefits provided at application.
Volunteers plan a Sunday March 19 Easter Seal Parade with door to door solicitation and drop off points. The Chicago Metropolitan Unit of the Illinois Association for the Crippled, organized in 1936, marks its 25th anniversary in 1981 for care and rehabilitation of the handicapped.
Albert A. Stange of Forest Park died February 24 at Oak Park hospital at age 78. He worked in gas and electric service, sanitary wages, and served as police guard at Garfield school crossing. A former Western and Wisconsin league baseball player, he was married to the late Annie Radtke. Survived by siblings Herman Charles Gustav Edward Wilhelm and sister Mrs Calloty. interment at Arlington.
The Knockers plan an April 6 theatre party at Drury Lane with a dinner at the Martinique to follow and Peggy Casa in Lullaby. Ben Guthrie has chartered a bus departing 446 Thomas at 5 30 p m. Ruth Bouchard Mildred Strader and Elizabeth Reinke win metal book racks. Stella Tanozzi is welcomed as a new member at the March social teachings. Dominick tour is March 15 at 1 p m and Pot Luck Supper is March 16 at 8 30 p m Bella Robinson chairs both events.
The St Peters Lutheran adult group in Hannah Adams hosts Dr and Mrs Diephenthal medical missionaries on furlough from Malaya who head to Tanganyika Africa. The event includes Forest Park Evangelical and Reformed guests and pastor R W Roth delivering a Calvary cross meditation.
The Proviso East High School student core will present its annual variety show at 3 40 pm today and 8 pm Saturday featuring 75 cast members under director Miss Nancy Hurt. The production The Music Goes Round and Round runs in the auditorium at Proviso East First and Madison streets Maywood.
Dr Gade will preach The entire Consecration of the Apostle Paul Sunday at 11 am at the First Presbyterian church with music by the Westminster choir. Last week several new members joined and many children were baptized. A new church bulletin board will soon be erected on the church lawn.
Explorer Post 109 schedules a Bowling Night for March 25 under John Story. Details to be announced at Wednesday’s Eagles Hall meeting. President Ray Wentzel leads a badminton tournament within the post.
Mrs Alvin Monzin of Forest Park is highlighted as a past president of the Forges Unit Legion Auxiliary and served as 19th chairman of the Unit's cosmetic program for disabled women.
A daytime robbery at John Hancock Life Insurance Co. above Forest Park National Bank nets $10,499 from two employees Paul Bencos and Robert Van Heel at 10:30 a.m. The lone thief fled south on Hannah in a black Pontiac. Described: about 40, 5 feet, thin, dark complexion, wearing a felt hat and dark glasses. He was seen earlier loitering in the hallway.
Miss Elsa Pigorsz of 1133 Maer eng died March 1 at West Suburban Hospital. A primary teacher at Christ Lutheran School Oak Park for 60 years she lay in state Friday and Saturday before burial at Concordia Cemetery. She was survived by sister Irma and was preceded by parents Otto and Ida and sister Clara former Betsy Ross School principal.
Mrs. Herman Brandt leads American Legion Auxiliary in a fund drive to support Radio Free Europe. Funds fund 28 transmitters and relay stations delivering about 3,000 hours weekly of uncensored news to Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria, with Kennedy and security committee backing local group involvement.
