Fire Chief to Ask for More Assistants
Fire Chief Matthews will ask the village board to appoint four more regular firemen at the next meeting. He argues it is cheaper to hire regulars than pay many volunteers who receive pay per call. Only one other regular man remains on the force besides the chief, and three are needed to make a hydrant connection. Promotion leaves the department short of the usual quota, keeping them on call twenty four hours daily. With six on duty three can be at the station while the other three respond to alarms. Dormer Chief Schoff continues to occupy the apartment over the station until July.
