Ed Clamage Addresses Forest Park Kiwanis Memorial Day
Commander Edward Clamage of the American Legion, Department of Illinois, spoke to Forest Park Kiwanis on Memorial Day at Onto's. He recalled the first Memorial Day observance ordered by John A Logan on May 5, 1868, and noted veterans from the Civil War through World War I and the Spanish American War joined in the tribute. He urged a middle ground in politics, defense preparedness, and emphasized that America must remain united under one flag, defending democracy and avoiding undeclared wars.
