A large crowd gathered for the village council meeting amid rumors Chief Fred Licht would be replaced or pensioned off. Mayor Cullis adjourned without action as the crowd learned no decision had been made and Licht would remain Chief for the present.

Miss Veronica Reich of 422 Circle avenue will be among Valparaiso University's graduates at the annual commencement on June 24. Reich is slated to receive an AK degree and is the daughter of Augusta Reich.

Forest Park residents learn the Forest Park Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a school picnic at Altenteia on Friday June 9. Chairman Ben Berliner and Co Chairman E Basil Lane oversee planning with free ice cream lemonade and toys promised. Children arrive at 1 p m with lunch baskets for a day of activities aimed at all area schools.
June 4 at Forest Park between Cathey and Ferdinand avenues a large crowd will gather for a public ceremony honoring Mayor Collis. A gold star with an inlaid diamond will be presented by community leaders as speakers from various sectors share support for his administration. Music by Paul Stone's Military band will enliven the event with ice cream and popcorn planned.
The Play ground and Recreation board sponsors a hike this Saturday for children nine and older and adults. Meet at the west end of New Park at 9 a m with a bag lunch optional. The route goes along the Des Plaines river through forest preserves with rest stops and activities at Washington boulevard.

A stand by America rally at Chicago Station 1800 W Madison St is set for Saturday June 3 to demonstrate faith in American democracy and honor service members with a mass meeting and parade preparations.
The city wading pool in the east park section will open Saturday if weather permits. It will operate daily from 10 am to evening closing, except Sundays when hours are 2 pm to dark. An attendant will monitor the pool when in use.
Sherman Holub of 929 Marenge avenue died May 21 1939 at Quale Park hospital at age 37. An engraver for the Chicago Daily Tribune he is survived by wife Julie Nagel Holub and daughter Shirley, father Edward Holub, and sister Mrs Josephine Fuege of Oak Park. Funeral services were conducted by Br. Law Wallace Gare with interment at Forest Home cemetery.
Claude A Walker and editor John Polakeyic of Life Publications attended automobile races in Indianapolis on Tuesday. Walker set a notable record by covering VON miles on the track in 2 hours and 50 minutes aboard the 1939 Tinealy Zeplye. The return trip took about three hours.
