Basements Flood City Businesses Suffer Major Losses

In Cook County heavy weekend rain flooded Forest Park basements, inundating store inventories and causing power outages. Albrights and Otto's restaurant faced outages and pumps were used to drain water. residents rushed for freezing equipment and Rubber boots sold out as merchants aided each other during the disaster.

Carnival Planned by Seven Groups in Forest for August

Seven organizations including Forest Lions VFW American Legion Forest Park Kiwanis and fire department plan a week long carnival from May 20 to 25 with nightly prizes rides bands and a 1957 Mercury final day prize. A kickoff dance is set for August 17 at Moose Hall with tickets at one dollar. Committee of two reps from each group met to set policy next meeting July 2.

Baker suffers back injury. taken to hospital by police

Christian Lutz, a baker at 800 Beloit, sustained a back injury on Saturday and was transported to Park Hospital by local police. A woman at 913 Elgin fainted Sunday while walking home and was carried inside by officers, later recovering at home. Good intentions are often tainted by bad habits.
