Miss Forest Park To Be Found on Forest Stage
The Forest Park Review and local sponsors host Bathing Beauty contests on Forest Theatre stage Fridays July 28 August 4 and 11 with a final on August 13 to crown Miss Forest Park of 1950. Winners receive cash prizes gifts from Oak Park merchants and a three month theatre entry pass. Eligible contestants are single women ages 16 to 26 from western suburbs, not Chicago.

Realtors and Families Enjoy Annual Picnic
The First Savings and Loan Association of Forest Park and River Forest held its annual picnic last Sunday at Mra Myrtle Dillons country home on Lake Griswald. Local realtors and their families attended with guests including Police Chief William Kern and his family and attorney Lloyd Lehmann and family. Participants reported sore muscles Monday from games and races, led by President Earl T. Marquardt, while the July Fourth golf game had mixed results but prizes eased the sore spots.

Injury by Firecracker Sends Sharp Can Fragment into Arm
Richard Lussow, eight, of 905 Lath Yop, was cut when a firecracker in a tin can exploded on July 2. The blast sent a sharp fragment into his arm causing a laceration and tendon damage. He was treated for injuries.

99th Birthday Celebration for Mrs Caroline Kabbe
Mrs Caroline Kabbe of 1125 Beloit marked her 99th birthday with a two day home celebration in June. Friends and relatives visited June 26 and June 29, with the First Evangelical and Reformed church choir, Rev Carl Berger, Mrs Henrietta Murphy and family participating. A four tier cake topped with the numerals 99 was served.

Red Cross Unit Seeks Volunteers at Field Stevenson
Forest Park Red Cross unit will stay active through summer at Field Stevenson school on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 to 4. Volunteers are needed for surgical dressings and sewing tasks under Eva Prueser, Production unit chairwoman, who invites interested women to join.

Construction Work On Congress Street Highway Is Started
Three steps in planning and building the Congress Street Expressway are underway. Cook County Highway Department Assistant Chief Engineer James F. Kelly outlines progress to the West Area council of the Chicago Motor Club. Work from Canal Street to Sacramento Avenue includes piers, drainage tunnels, and demolition. the city handles Canal to Sacramento, with county work Sacramento west to the county line. Demolition contracts from Sacramento to Austin Boulevard are signed. Completion is projected by 1955 or early 1956 with full contracts by 1954.

Forest Parks and Sandwich are the only Illinois towns that removed meters after a brief trial per a survey by the Illinois State Chamber of Commerce. Illinois had 129 cities using meters and over 49,000 meters generate about $3,000,000 annually to fund off street parking projects.
