The Legion Hall in Forest Park hosts a pancake dinner to raise funds for grade pupils. Doors open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with juice coffee milk syrup and butter. Admission is 1.00 for adults 0.50 for children 12 and under. Tickets sold by members or at the door.
Rev. Glenn Gumm, who escorted a shipload of heifers to Europe for Church World Service, will address a program at the 1st United Church in Elgin and Harvard on Tuesday at 8 pm. His talk and Europe photos have drawn praise nationwide. The event is hosted by the Skirts and Shirts club with admission 25 cents for adults.
Proviso East high School band directed by Irving Tallmadge performs a winter concert at 3 15 p m Sunday January 22 in the auditorium at First and Madison The program spans tastes from Gun Smoke to Finlandia Lezlie Heard Maywood will automime the spiritual Dry Jones by James Stange who directs Roberta Murphy will introduce Gun Smoke
E Clifford Marquardt announced the entire Board of Directors was re elected for another term. The association plans a 12 000 square foot addition in 1961 with Louis Cordogan guiding the project and an early fall completion. Re elected were John J Long George E Warner Carleton R Good and Edmund C Trage. A new Annex housing Jim Dale Travel and other tenants was completed and occupied on December 1.
At the January 8 meeting of the German American National Congress Westside branch Chicago area unanimously elected Mayor William H. Meyer as honorary member for promoting goodwill among German ancestry citizens and declaring German American Week. Featured dates Ney 13 19 1060 context.
A new series of professional ice skating lessons starts Monday Jan 23 at Forest Park Ice Rink. Jo Ann Murphy will conduct a 10 lesson course meeting Monday evenings and Friday afternoons with private and semi private options. Registration at the Warming House. Fees begin at $7.50.
Comm. Harry Blue says water will be off from midnight Friday January 20 until 4 am Saturday morning to allow repairs on the main at the Water Plant.
Emery Ebbert, athletic director at Provisa East and West high schools, announces an elementary students swim program. First session for Provisa East area students begins February, with mail registration due by midnight Friday January 20. Cost is $5 for an eight week session. Instruction sheets and blanks available from grade school physical education teachers. registration must be done for the high school the student will attend.
The Women of the Moose offer a menu of perch shrimp and potato pancakes at Moose Hall B10 Desplaines Friday 6 to 8 p.m. Neighbors and friends are invited. They will also meet January 25 at 8 14 p.m. to discuss the Midwinter Conference.
The rink will close on Mondays for public skating to fit in lessons and private party rentals. Information available from the Park District at FO 6-0203.
Conductor Patrick J. Gannon of 842 Beloit retires this month from the CTA after 44 years of service. He began as a trainman with Metropolitan Elevated on July 27, 1916 and rose to conductor on the West Section line. A World War I veteran, he served at Camp Logan, Texas, with the 122nd Artillery and spent a year overseas. He plans to reestablish his American Legion Elevated Post membership and is married to Delia for 40 years with one son Thomas and two grandchildren.
The annual Sauerkraut Supper by St John Ladies Aid will be held Thursday January 26 from 5 to 7 PM. Menu includes pork and beef dishes with sides. Tickets can be purchased by calling Mrs Jagow or Mrs Niko at the listed numbers.
Miss Mary Ann Hafner chairs a Legion Auxiliary spaghetti dinner for families, to be held Saturday February 4 from 6 to 8 pm at Memorial Hall Circle and Adams. Joe Sansone will prepare the spaghetti with an Italian touch. tickets cost 1.25 for adults and 75 cents for children.
The Forest Park Band Parents Association seeks donations to fund a Summer Youth Music Camp for nine groups of seventh grade band pupils. Last year six local boys and girls benefited through the association’s Scholarship Committee. this year choral students are also eligible. Send contributions to George Scharama or John Saller. next Band Parents meeting is Friday at Field Stevenson cafeteria.
Hubert Mueller will be installed as President of the St. John Ushers Club at a banquet Saturday at Richard's restaurant. New officers include A. Krauge vice president W. Exnst treasurer and J Barker with G Lippug secretaries. Rev Hauser hosts with guest speaker George Grave of the Bataan youth march.
The Grandmother's Club marked its second anniversary with twenty three members and five visitors attending. Each charter member received an orchid while Ella Lukow pledged new members before refreshments served by Marie Weidler, Ethel Bugtolt, and Madeline Palumbo. The next meeting is February 6 at the Park building. members should bring white elephants.
The Forest Lions and their ladies present Constance Tosnalt Marriage Go Round February 2 at Drury Lane. Afterward the group will dine at the Martinique, while locals receive Christmas food certificates from Chet Silski and Jack Riley. The welfare agency funds homes for the recipients. A monthly club meeting will include a bull session on local issues. Joe Reichmann was congratulated on his election as Oak Park Board of Realtors president.
