Teachers Discuss Arithmetic and Reading Problems
Forest Park school panel of the lay advisory council met Wednesday evening November 28 to discuss reading and arithmetic instruction. Moderator Helmes Hamilton and teachers Dorothy Kaochka Frances OConnell Marie Paulson and Esther Berg participated. The 15 member group advises the board on policy including purchasing and school buildings and now reviews curriculum. It does not handle administration and only makes recommendations and may discuss homework at a future session.

Project Mercy aids Hungarian refugees at Camp Kilmer
Army Specialist 3/C Arnold Schulz of Forest Park works at Camp Kilmer New Jersey as refugees from Hungary are processed for U S immigration. Schulz assigned to Co B 86th Engineer Battalion Fort Dix New Jersey and joined the Army last May. His mother Mrs Schulz lives at 440 Ferdinand. The news notes a shift from lawn care to snow shovel as a physical training activity.

Joseph Shaughnessy of Garfield was elected president of the PTA council at a November 27 meeting at Field Stevenson school. Officers include Rose Miller Betsy Ross as vice president Eva Langreder Forest Park Junior High as treasurer and Lucille DaCosta Betsy Ross as secretary. The council links five Forest Park PTAs with delegates from each unit and district leaders.
