Jackie Raymon Lather, at 620 Thoudienne, is home after travels. upcoming Hall of Honor updates are promised in next issue. Captain Williamn I Lasseter of the Forest Park Ty. CG Unit No. 570 enlisted. Mrs A Taylor hosted visitors including furloughed Harry Fippinger and Sergeant McGrogan. Desplaines and Hortison street still operates as the Wayside Inn now Laborty Hall with new management.
In a letter home from London the author recalls arriving midweek, visiting the Strand, Bugle Hut Y M C A, and Australian soldiers. He describes mixed crowds, camaraderie among Allied troops, a tour of Westminster Abbey and Parliament, and attending the army navy game where the navy won 8 to 2. He mentions meeting King George VI, Queen Alexandria, and other dignitaries, then returning to the Strand for a meal.
Camp Fire Girls returned from a weeklong outing at Booth Haven Michigan and reached home Tuesday morning. The party included their guardian Mee Merbert J. Mueller and troop activities ranged from crafts and swimming to a dance and a playlet. Highlights included a royal on the Indiana shore and award ceremonies with Patriotin-Hour honors, with campers planning a possible repeat trip next summer.
A Sunday ceremony on August 11 honored thirteen local youths from a Forest Park block who left home to serve. Speakers praised courage and sacrifice, with reflections on war’s causes and a pledge that the boys will return safely. Major Tom McArogan of Longstreet Field was among honored guests as town voices urged unity and resolve.
