Wm S Petlow former Community Methodist pastor says the government has ordered him to wear a chaplain’s insignia at Camp Zachary Taylor Lonxville Kentucky where he and about 200 others are attending a week long training course to qualify as chaplains for the U S army Those who pass will receive commissions Petlow’s brother Bret is in Long Island awaiting transport to France and Mrs Petlow hopes for Army hospital use in Camp Grant Rockford Illinois
Capt Carl H Bartling and his wife stopped Tuesday in Forest Park on his way to France. Dr Gut H Bartling, promoted from first lieutenant to captain, serves as Receiving Officer at Camp Crane Allentown. He joins a hospital unit for the overseas service. Bartling is son of Chas Bartling of 7612 Madison Street Forest Park.
A recital at St Peter s Lutheran Church is set for Wednesday evening featuring Ant Dyrovaky plantat and soprano Miss Erma Rows with Deorsky on piano and organ from Carthage School of Music Carthage College. The program promises well received selections and grace, with Rowe noted as a student bringing joy to listeners. Attorney Huttmann reported the Hintze case was continued from Monday July 20 to Wednesday August with the state’s request pending.
The undersigned candidates address voters on Sunday August 6 1018 in the city. Henry Stull and Fotis Mpplayer seek seats as independents in the monetary council, promising no party obligations and opposition to pat favors. The Ladies’ Aid of the German Church and the Morest Park Auxiliary collected and organized Red Cross supplies in July. Hospital garments, infant shirts, sweaters, and surgical dressings were noted as completed and distributed to local needs, with praise for well made items and cooperative effort.
The Thanksgiving Circle of the Kings Daughters meets at Mrs George Olson's home at 40 Circle Avenue Tuesday August devotional topic feet and Believing led by Mrs Siegfried meeting ends at 2 o'clock. Immense crowds bid farewell at Maywood Mill, as trains depart to Camp Jackson. Names listed include Harry McCullough, Chas Clausen, Ittoy Mohr, Walter BeHUle, Fred Ball, Edwig Quandt, Robert Hewus, and others amid scenes of plucky goodbyes and emotional departures.
Numerous farewell gatherings marked departures of local youths bound for military and naval service. Fred Becker of Becker family heads to New York City and overseas after a woodland sendoff, while James B McFeeley and Hoy Mohr host parties before reporting to Great Lakes Naval Training Station and Port Jackson Florida respectively. Community members, including the Buur no Club and Circle Pleasure Club, join in sharing memories, gifts, and best wishes for brave service.
