George McNeill Dies From Electric Line Injury

Rutherfordton May 21 George McNeill 37 a lineman for Rutherfordton Light and Power Co died in Rutherford hospital after being shocked Saturday night while connecting lights. He fell from a live pole after contact with 2300 volts. He leaves a widow three children his mother and sister Mrs Edgar Hill of Rutherfordton. McNeill born in Georgia came to Rutherfordton in 1919 and served in the Baptist church and Sunday school. Funeral Friday at 10 from Rutherfordton Baptist church with burial in Rutherfordton cemetery.

To Decorate Graves of World War Vets

Forest City and Rutherfordton American Legion Posts will place wreaths on the graves of Rutherford County World War I veterans on Memorial Day May 30. Special committees will locate graves and arrange wreaths, with county residents urged to donate flowers by May 29. Donors may bring flowers to Forest City or Rutherfordton and veterans are asked to report grave locations, especially unmarked or recently deceased ex soldiers.

A Fine Girl Born to Mr and Mrs Cecil Watkins

Mr and Mrs Cecil Watkins are receiving congratulations over the birth of a daughter born Wednesday May 21. The mother was formerly Miss Sara King.

Bee Specialist Coming to Rutherford County

Erfordton May 20 A bee expert from State College will visit Rutherford County Monday to assist Patton in a bee study course. A session is planned at Mr J Hy Walker’s home in Rutherfordton at 10 o clock and another at Mr B B Sanders in Bostic at 6 30 p m. Bee keepers and others interested are invited to attend.

Eugene Keeter of Forest City received minor injuries Wednesday May 14 at 4 30 p m when struck by a car driven by Mrs B B Bishop of Tryon at Mint and Morehead streets Witnesses said Keeter ran to catch a car and was treated at the Charlotte Sanatorium then returned home Friday

Rutherford County Republicans Name Ticket

Rutherfordton May 19 The Republican convention named a ticket for county offices including Legislature clerk of court and county commissioners. Brownlow Jackson urged party organization while Fred D Hamrick was reelected chairman. The platform calls for abolishing the county treasurer office, merging it with the county accountant, and urges economy. It also condemns bank deposits of 332000 without proper security and proposes abolishing the county recorder’s office.

Heavy Sentences In Rutherfordton Court May 19

Sixteen men, white and colored, were sentenced Saturday morning by Judge Walter Moore for crimes during the first week of Rutherfordton's criminal term. Sentences ranged from four months on the roads to ten years in state prison for storebreaking, forgery, larceny, and other offenses.

Alexander Schools Drama Ends With Dual Graduation

Rutherfordton May 20 Alexander Schools Inc home for motherless and orphan children in Union Mills near Rutherfordton closes its term with seventh grade graduation at 10 am and high school program at 8 pm Friday. Dr J W O'Hara Asheville Mountain Mission superintendent will give the morning address and County Superintendent Clyde A Erwin will speak in the evening. Seventeen graduates total including 20 seventh grade and 12 high school seniors. Tuesday at 8 pm a reading and declamation contest will cap the events.

Fires Cause $4500 Damage on Broadway Street

Two blazes destroyed a residence on Broadway Street with all household furniture, totaling about $4500. Mr. Smart and family were away visiting relatives. the house and contents were a total loss. Fire is believed caused by a defective wire. Neighbors alerted the alarm as the structure was fully ablaze. Insurance covered about $2000 of the loss.

Cool Springs township lines up a week of commencements with Dr Harrold D Myers of the University of North Carolina delivering the literary address on May 30 at Forest City area events. Baptist Women to Hold Rutherfordton Meet

Rutherfordton May 20 The Charlotte division of the Baptist State Woman's Missionary union will meet in Rutherfordton at the First Baptist church on Thursday and Friday June 5 and 6. About 300 visitors and delegates from 19 different Baptist associations are expected to attend. A full two day program will be given.

Hail Stones Exhibit Shown In Rutherfordton

Mrs Gibbs of Chimney Rock township near the Rutherford Polk line presented hail stones that recently fell in her area. Preserved in an ice house, the balls ranged up to the size of a hen egg, shown in Rutherfordton on Monday afternoon.
