Man dies after fall from moving truck near Forest City

P Hendley of Pacolet aged 75 died in hospital Monday at 11 30 after a fall from a transfer truck en route to Forest City. The incident occurred Sunday as the truck left Cliffside from South Carolina. Hendley, who was riding with Tom Nix while en route to visit relatives, fell while the vehicle moved. he was taken to Forest City hospital where he died after doctors treated him. The deceased is survived by four children and was connected with a Pacolet mill. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Clifton Methodist Church with Chief of Police and local officials noting the death.

Officers Seize Large Whiskey Haul in Polk County

Sheriff W D Polk County and two men named Tipton confiscated a large quantity of illicit whiskey in the Green's Creek area. The officers, aided by others, reported destroying barrels and ed half gallon measures, as part of a major liquor raid following a recent term.

Student Hurt When Hit by Car Near Cool Springs High

Sixteen year old Lee Moss Reinhardt senior at Cool Springs high school was seriously injured Thursday afternoon after being struck by a car driven by Walter McCurry of Hazelhurst farm near Cliffside. The accident occurred in front of the school as classes ended. Reinhardt suffered a fractured skull and was rushed to Rutherford Hospital where doctors initially described his condition as serious but improving with regained consciousness.

Polk Rutherford C E U To Meet

The Junior Christian Endeavor unions of Rutherford and Polk counties will meet in Forest City Presbyterian church on Friday evening April 4 at 5 o clock in regular quarterly session. Supper will be served at the church or in a building near the church. Each Endeavor union is requested to have representatives present.

Famous Aviator Visits Forest City Airport

Dwight tor from Huntersville visited Forest City Airport last weekend with his Waco-10 to see his brother in law Max Watson of Spindale. He and local aviator Paul McMurry flew to haul passengers on Sunday, presenting a metropolitan display and attracting praise for the field after wires were removed.

Sterling Hosiery Mill Moves to Spindale Plant

The Sterling Hosiery Mills completed moving all machinery to the Spindale plant this week. Finishing and dyeing remain in Forest City until a new dye house is built at Spindale. Many workers took positions at Spindale, some left for other jobs. Forest City laments the loss, but hints a new hosiery mill may open here this spring, attracted by the location and adaptable building.

Long Loses 2100 In Bank Pouch At Ruthyn

Mr Long, a well known merchant, left home in the morning with 2100 in cash to deposit in the Ruthyn bank. The money vanished en route, leaving 2100 missing entirely. He searched in vain for the wallet and contents and offers a liberal reward for its return.

Mrs Laura Jones Dies in Savannah Georgia

Mrs Laura Jones aged 68 widow of R W Jones of Savannah Georgia died at her home after about two years illness. She was born Laura Lee in Forest City and had many relatives nearby. Her husband died last November and was brother of J N Jones of Jones Grocery Company. Funeral services were held in Savannah and she was buried beside her husband.

Kiwanians Hold Joint Meet with Tryon and Rutherfordton Clubs

Local Kiwanians traveled to Columbus Tuesday night for a joint session with the Tryon and Rutherfordton clubs. Dr. R. R. Howes led the Forest City portion and Dr. W. A. Ayers spoke. Seventeen Forest City, fifteen Rutherfordton, and eighteen Tryon members attended. Guests praised the Columbus Hotel supper and the program received high marks overall.

Daniel Henry McKeithan aged 67 died at his Bostic home Tuesday morning after a three year decline from paralysis and stroke. Funeral held Wednesday at Concord Baptist church with Rev. New Italian Style Tea Room Planned Between Forest City and Spindale

Messrs M D Harrisf and F F Black have let the contract for a handsome new tea room on Highway No 20 between Forest City and Spindale. The structure will be Italian in style and modern in every respect, costing about $5000. Work has begun and will be completed about April 10.

Frank D. Grist to Speak Here at City Hall

Raleigh official Frank D. Grist state commissioner of labor and printing will address the Willis Towery Post American Legion at City Hall Thursday night. The ex-service man has led the department for four years and is a well known North Carolina speaker on Legion principles and future activities.
